Johanna Brugman

I am an urban and regional planner working across planning, environmental science, architecture and community development. I currently teach in the Master of Urban Planning at the University of Technology Sydney. My research aims to contribute towards the development of socially just and ecologically sound cities and regions through the inclusion of diverse knowledges and collective action in urban and regional planning. I have coordinated research studies focusing on understanding the contribution of marginalised knowledges and collective practices such as those of the urban poor, Indigenous people, and women to urban and regional development, as well as how formal systems of planning and governance include and exclude these knowledges and practices. I have significant professional planning experience working with State and Federal governments, private planning consulting firms in Australia and international and civil society organisations in Southeast Asia.
